FOOD SECURITY CHALLENGES IN RESILIENT COMMUNITIES AND THE BORNO STATE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PLAN IN NIGERIA
According to Action Against Hunger, food insecurity in Nigeria registers a figure of 1.74 million children who suffered from malnutrition in the northern region of the country during 2022, while, by February 2023, just over 1.8 million of the inhabitants of Borno state have been internally displaced due to the activity of armed groups and bandits (OIM, 2023), and also, the several droughts, floods and land degradation due to climate change. For all this, the Government of Borno launched the Borno Sustainable Development Plan (BoSDP) in 2020, mainstreaming the Triple Nexus Approach through some of its governance pillars: human capital development , agriculture, health, environment and trade, committed to building resilient communities, in harmony with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2, 10, 16 and 17, respectively. This article analyses the challenges of the continued armed conflict, food insecurity and the effects of climate change through local governance transformation strategies, in a scenario as volatile as northern Nigeria.
