STARVATION AS A WEAPON OF WAR AND SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 2417

Armed conflicts are one of the main drivers of hunger in the world. Moreover, since 2017, a resurgence of famines deliberately promoted as a war tactic to subjugate the enemy has been observed. This realization has increased academic and political interest in the problem. An evidence of this is the relevant approval in 2018 of Resolution 2417 of the United Nations Security Council, which prohibits the use of starvation as a weapon of war at the global level and has galvanized different governmental and civil society initiatives in the face of the issue.
